Commercial use of Segment
Over the years Segment has gone from a simple research tool, to a large project for cardiac image analysis.
To ensure that technical support on the program does not interfere as my regular work as researcher all support and commercialization of the product is peformed by the company Medviso AB. This company is co-owned by Lund-University. Only development of new functions that are scientifically publishable or needed in our research group are done on working hours. Other features are developed on after office hours. This is also one of the reasons for having several license forms for Segment.
With this said, I encourage all users to come with questions and feedback, but I do not guarantee that the Segment development team will have time to answer your questions. We are also open for various forms of research collaborations.

Why pay for something that I can get for free?
The software is free for academic research. If you are commercial and do not fulfil the criterias stated in the Academic Research license terms below, then why should you pay for something that you can download for free?
There are several reasons, and the most important being respect. I put out free of charge for research use in trust and confidence, please do respect that. Moreover, by acquiring the clinical editions, you can get support when you get stuck, quick acess to bug-fixes. You will also get additional functionality that is not included in the research only version. Finally, it is simply illegal to use Segment commercially without a valid license.
Note that the software is copyrighted and may not be redistributed/resold without permission of the author. Prices and differrent license options is given on the company Medviso AB home page. If you have questions about the license forms, please do not hesitate to contact info@medviso.com.
Academic research (our definition)
The research must be noncommercial and the major funding source for the research project should be govermental or donations. Note that pharmaceutical trials is generally not covered by these conditions. You need to reference the software properly. You are required to send full text or bibliographic information about scientific publications where Segment has been used. Support is limited and to the discretion of Medviso AB and limited to issues around installing, loading data and general questions.

Therefore its use may be limited by applicable statutes or regulations. It is in the users responsibility to obey these statutes, rules and regulations.
The product has been FDA 510(k) approved which is required for clinical use in the US.
Currently MEDVISO AB is preparing the required paperwork that is necessary before the product can be CE-certified.
